Fresh new faces join council ranks

A bunch of fresh faced apprentices and trainees have kicked off the new year with a career at Council.

Gladstone Regional Council (GRC) has welcomed 22 enthusiastic apprentices and trainees for its 2024 intake at an induction ceremony held on Monday 29 January at the Philip Street Communities and Families Precinct.

The 22 apprentices and trainees consist of:

 11 x Business Administration Trainees

 2 x Process Operators

 2 x Electrical Apprentices

 Mechanical Fitter Apprentice

 Parks and Gardens Apprentice

 Diesel Apprentice

 Governance Trainee

 Conservation and Land Management Trainee

 Pest Management Trainee

 Live Production Trainee.

These recruits will fill roles at Council locations right across the region including Agnes Water, Calliope and Gladstone.

Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said it was exciting for Council to welcome the 2024 apprentice and trainee intake.

“It’s fantastic to see so many new faces join an organisation that is committed to delivering outstanding service to the community,” Councillor Burnett said.

“Council is proud to serve more than 63,000 residents across 10,489 square kilometres, so it’s great to see roles have been filled in a variety of work sites within the region.

“I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to apply and wish the successful applicants the best of luck on their GRC journey.”

Council’s apprenticeship and traineeship program has been assisted by the First Start program.

First Start is one of eight programs under the Queensland Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative and provides wage subsidies to local councils and community-based organisations to employ additional trainees.

The program offers opportunities to young people and disadvantaged job seekers to gain nationally recognised qualifications and 12 months employment by undertaking a traineeship or longer for apprenticeships.
