Experience an EV for yourself

Everyone has an opinion on electric/hybrid cars, so if you’ve been sitting on the fence or hanging out with the sceptics, here is your opportunity to really find out for yourself.

Reef City Motors in Gladstone is hosting an ‘EV Drive Day’ with a wide variety of vehicles to test drive on Saturday, 23 March.

You’ll get to experience the hype of the newly arrived Ford Mach E, the spunky Kia EV6 and EV9, GWM Ora, GWM Jolion and H6 hybrid models, freshly arrived Subaru Solterra, the plug-in, hybrid Ford Escape, some Subaru Crosstrek and Forester hybrid models as well as Honda’s hybrid range of HRV, CRV, ZRV.

Glen Sharp, Reef City Motors dealer principal said his team wanted to give everybody a chance to drive the cars and make up their own mind.

“There are a lot of changes coming to the industry, so we want to encourage drivers to come out, talk to the staff, get the facts and test drive the range of vehicles across all our brands,” Glen said.

“The torque of the cars and the technology inside the cabin is very different to what they are used to.”

So can sort of performance specs can you get on the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT model?

0-100kmh in 3.7 seconds, a Range (WLTP) of 490km2, Power: 358kW, Torque: 860Nm, Performance tuned dual motor all wheel drive, Usable Battery Capacity: 91kWh and Type 2, Mode 3 Cable.

Outer suburban drivers are zooming past inner city-dwellers on electric vehicle uptake, according to new analysis by the Electric Vehicle Council.

The new data, compiled exclusively by the EVC, shows the shift, with inner metropolitan EV orders (38.95 per cent) being outstripped by those placed in outer metropolitan suburbs (43.29 per cent).

Electric Vehicle Council chief executive Behyad Jafari said the data was revealing.

“I think some tired stereotypes about EVs in Australia will need to be updated,” Mr Jafari said.

“What this data tells us is that the average EV buyer lives in the suburbs and might well be keen to use the new car to take the kids camping on the weekend. They might even be thinking about towing a boat.

“Suburban EV buyers who are sensitive to the cost of living will be looking forward to no longer worrying about foreign oil spikes or costly regular repairs and services.”
