Planned burns – Curtis Island

The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service has begun planned burn operations within Curtis Island National Park, Curtis Island Conservation Park, Curtis Island State Forest and Curtis Island Environmental Managment Precinct, which will be underway until Friday 12 April 2024, weather permitting.

The burns are part of the annual hazard reduction and conservation management program for parks and forests.

The aim of this burn is to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas to help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration.

As a result, smoke may be seen in the vicinity of area.

Vehicle fire – Colosseum

A vehicle fire was reported on the Bruce Highway at 5.55am on Friday, 15 March at Colosseum, near Miriam Vale.

A female in her 40s was assessed for smoke inhalation, however declined hospitalisation. Queensland Ambulance Service remained on scene Friday morning as Queensland Fire and Emergency Services dealt with the blaze.

Vehicle into tree – Jambin

A vehicle has collided with a tree near Jambin on the Burnett Highway at 9.48pm on Thursday, 14 March.

Queensland Ambulance Service assessed a male patient who had sustained lacerations and reported neck and leg pain. He was transported to Biloela Hospital in a stable condition.

Truck crash – Calliope

The Bruce Highway was closed Wednesday afternoon, March 13 due to a two-truck crash at Calliope involving a carrier and a cement truck.

One lane was able to be opened while clean-up continued, with the highway expected to be fully open about 3pm.

Motorists travelling north were urged to avoid the area, as long delays were expected.

Coal exports up – Gladstone

Exports of coal from Gladstone port increased by 79.9 per cent in February compared to the same month in 2023.

Some 5.04 million tonnes was loaded through the port during the month.

Coal exports from Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal totalled 4.52 million tonnes for February, up 12.4 per cent year on year.

Shipments from Abbot Point accounted for 3.34 million tonnes, up 11.5 per cent year on year.

CCTV footage to help ID thieves – Biloela

Biloela Police are investigating after offenders attempted to gain entry to five parked vehicles between 5-6am on Sunday March 10.

The offenders allegedly attempted to gain access to a number of vehicles parked on the street and also open carport areas on Bundalba Street and Malakoff Street.

The offenders have tried to open the door handles of cars of locked vehicles, and were unsuccessful.

A fuel card was stolen from one unlocked vehicle.

In all reported offences, CCTV has captured suspects’ movements and is assisting police to identify offenders.

Two-vehicle crash – Aldoga

Two patients were assessed by paramedics after a two-vehicle crash on Aldoga Road and Gladstone-Mount Larcom Rd at 5.40am on Monday 18 March.
