Fifty years of remarkable achievement

The Moura Multi-Purpose Health Service have launched a booklet commemorating 50 years of continuous service, a remarkable achievement for such an organisation. Put together by the hardworking members of the MPHS Auxiliary, it makes interesting reading as it reflects upon the five decades of unwavering support for the small communities of Moura, Banana, and Bauhinia.

The Moura MPHS Auxiliary has been the cornerstone of our community, consistently demonstrating its invaluable support for Moura Hospital. Through monthly meetings, meticulous planning, and various fundraising activities, they have made a life-saving impact on our healthcare system. Their contributions, including volunteer hours and direct funding, have reached remarkable heights, totalling millions of dollars over the past five decades. Such unwavering generosity has enabled the acquisition of essential equipment and vital resources, thereby enriching the quality of care provided at Moura Hospital.

Their selflessness and determination have been instrumental in keeping our hospital strong and ensuring the well-being of our communities. This remarkable milestone, marked by the receipt of the Banana Shire 2023 Australia Day Community Group of the Year Award, stands as a testament to their hard work and dedication.

The challenges faced by our healthcare system in recent years have been met with resilience and determination by the Moura MPHS Auxiliary. They have navigated through adversity, adapting to changing circumstances and ensuring the continuity of their vital work. Their unwavering dedication was evident when meetings were suspended in 2012 due to the threatened closure of Moura Hospital. Undeterred, they rallied together, joining forces with the Community Reference Group and the Moura Community Advisory Group, ultimately leading to the construction of the new Moura Community Hospital. The official opening of this modern facility in 2015 was a crowning achievement, standing as a testament to the indomitable spirit of our community.

We owe an immense debt of gratitude to the dedicated members, both past and present, for their unwavering commitment to fundraising, caring for our communities, and preserving our shared history. Their generosity and service will forever be etched in the annals of our region, inspiring future generations of volunteers to continue their noble work. On behalf of the residents of Banana Shire, thank you.
